Injury has contributed to Norwich City new boy Marley Watkins missing out on his opportunity for a first Wales cap.
The attacker, who is joining on a free transfer when his Barnsley contract expires this summer, had been at a training camp in Portugal with Chris Coleman’s squad.
However, the 26-year-old former Swansea City trainee has not been included in the final 23-man squad which will travel to Belgrade to take on Serbia in World Cup qualifying on Sunday.
Watkins posted on his official @MarleyWatkins Twitter account, to explain: “Had a thigh injury during Wales camp. Frustrating but an amazing experience nonetheless. Focus now on getting ready for new season!”
The new Canaries signing received his first Wales call-up having scored 10 goals and set up nine for Barnsley this season, earning the former Cheltenham and Bath City man his move to Norfolk.
Watkins, who can wide or just behind the striker, was unveiled as a Norwich player last week. He was born in London but is also eligible to play for Wales and France through his parents.
