Goals are the currency Norwich City must find to fire the club's Premier League promotion push. Chief City correspondent Paddy Davitt has picked out the Championship's proven strikers who could rifle Alex Neil's squad back to the big time.

• Jonathan Kodjia

Club: Bristol City

League goals 2015/16: 19

Stunning impact at Ashton Gate following his move from France 12 months ago in a Robins side battling relegation until the closing weeks of the season. Likely to be a key figure in the Bristolians' ambitious bid to get in the promotion shake-up, underlined by the free transfer arrival of former Norwich City midfielder Gary O'Neil earlier this summer. Kodjia can operate centrally or down the flanks and has the pace to stretch defences at this level and the cunning to score all types of goals. Arguably the Championship's form striker after seven goals in the final nine games of last season.

• Ross McCormack

Club: Fulham

League goals 15/16: 21

The one bright spark in a poor Fulham side last season. Prolific at Championship level and good enough for the Cottagers to shell out £11million for his services after finishing as the second-tier's top scorer at Leeds United in 2013/14. Guaranteed goals.

• Britt Assombalonga

Club: Nottingham Forest

League goals 15/16: 1

Scored the winner in Nottingham Forest's final Championship game of last season to underline he was back in business after a 14-month lay-off for a broken kneecap. Prior to that spell on the sidelines had smashed 15 goals in 32 games at this level.

• Chris Martin

Club: Derby County

League goals 15/16: 15

The boy from Beccles hardly needs any introduction to Norwich City fans. One of the club's best academy products in recent years. Plundered 55 in 137 Championship outings for the Rams. Excellent link-up play and intelligent movement.

• Nahki Wells

Club: Huddersfield

League goals 15/16: 17

The Bermuda international scored 17 goals in a Huddersfield team that finished 19th in the Championship last season. Power, pace and at 26, more than capable of further improvement. Cut in the same mould as Andre Gray. Has been touted with Premier League clubs in the last 12 months and not difficult to see why. Looked a real handful on his last visit to Carrow Road alongside Grant Holt in City's promotion season before an early sending-off for the Terriers tipped that particular game on its head.

• Tomer Hemed

Club: Brighton

League goals 15/16: 17

Impressive debut season in the Championship for the Israeli international under the astute management of former City boss Chris Hughton. Tall, powerful, targetman who needs quick skilful players to service him but no doubt one of the best of his type in the second tier. Interesting to see how he adapts this time around now he no longer has the element of surprise when it comes to Championship defences.
