Oldham pulled a couple back near the end but Swindon coasted home to move 11 points behind leaders Norwich with two games in hand.
City's opponents on Saturday, Brighton, drew 0-0 at home against a Huddersfield side who are slipping off the play-off pace.
Next month's Johnstone's Paint Trophy final will see Southampton take on Carlisle at Wembley.
The Saints, who beat City on penalties in the previous round, saw off MK Dons 3-1 at St Mary's last night to win the Southern Area Final 4-1 on aggregate while Carlisle beat Leeds 6-5 on penalties in the Northern Final after losing 3-2 at Brunton Park for a
4-4 aggregate. Leeds were 2-1 down with 10 minutes to go before goals from Jason Crowe and Mike Grella earned them a shoot-out.
The result means there is no need to switch Leeds' trip to Carrow Road on March 27 - the day before the Wembley final - although the fixture could yet be moved for live coverage on Sky Sports.
