Norwich City defender Marco Stiepermann has revealed he had a hernia operation earlier this week.

The German hasn't started a match for the Canaries since a 2-1 home defeat to Brentford just before Christmas, making four late substitute cameos in the following 13 games.

The 27-year-old was on the bench for the 1-1 home draw with Ipswich earlier this month but was not among Daniel Farke's substitutes for the last two matches.

Posting on his Instagram account, Stiepermann said: 'The hernia operation yesterday (Tuesday) went well and now I will try to get back on the pitch as soon as possible!'

The summer signing from Bochum has made 27 appearances this season, scoring once. He has mostly featured at left-back but has played a limited role since Jamal Lewis made his debut on Boxing Day. It seems highly likely Stiepermann will miss Saturday's trip to Barnsley, which City boss Farke will be able to clarify at his pre-match press conference on Friday.
