Steve Morison insists new Norwich City boss Chris Hughton has already stamped his mark on the Canaries.

The Welsh international revealed his team-mates have responded well to Hughton's more relaxed approach following the manager's summer switch from Birmingham.

Morison and the rest of City's first team squad are coming towards the end of a gruelling pre-season trip to Austria, but the striker knows there can be no short cuts in the preparations for another crack at the Premier League.

'We've only been back a few weeks and we are still pretty much just learning what the gaffer wants from us to do,' he said. 'We have a couple of new lads who are integrating in well but it has been going well. Long may that continue. There is a different vibe with the new coaching staff, a different atmosphere.

'We are trying to figure each other out and looking forward to the future. We've got plenty of games coming up and you definitely look forward to those once you get the first couple of weeks out of the way.'

Morison and the Norwich squad have been put through their paces at the club's base in Bad Radkersburg with Hughton and his coaching team overseeing a tough fitness regime.

'It's been good – if you can call hard work good – but I've enjoyed it. It's been tough but I think the lads have enjoyed their time together this week,' he said.

'This is what pre-season is all about. It is hard to enjoy it but you have to just get through it, get through the other side and you know if you do that it sets you up for the rest of the season.

'All the lads are working hard and we are now looking forward to the game on Saturday. I've scored a few goals in training but that is neither here nor there, to be honest. It is about putting in the hard yards in training and trying to find your levels. The heat out here just makes it extra hard.'

Morison, speaking to the club's official site yesterday, said he is looking forward to facing Hertha Berlin in Gleisdorf this weekend ahead of the start of a full series of domestic friendlies, beginning with the trip to Celtic.

'I want to carry on where I left off at the end of last season and it will be nice to score a few more goals,' he said. 'The games will come thick and fast now and that is when you start doing your proper work. You can never replicate what you do in a game in training and it's from the games that you get the good stuff and the confidence. The results are not the be all and end all. You look at the champions of the Premier League. This week they have drawn one and lost one – it's all about working hard and getting the miles in your legs and ready for August 18.'
