Elliott Bennett's match-winning display alongside Simeon Jackson came as no surprise to Chris Hughton.

The Norwich City chief opted to move Bennett from his more accustomed berth on the right flank to forge a potent spearhead down the centre with the Canadian. Both rewarded Hughton with goalscoring displays that could also carry residual value for the Premier League battles ahead.

'They were a constant threat and gave us good options up front. Elliott is certainly a flexible player,' said Hughton. 'I think he could do that role for us in the Premier League. Of course his best position is in a wide right area but he has got good pace and he keeps the ball very well.

'I see no reason why he couldn't play there. Considering both of them have not played as much football as they would have liked they were good right through the game. 'I made up my mind they were both going to play a few days ago and it was then just a case of where we played Elliott.

'I felt with them going three at the back if we had that little bit of pace we could work the channels and work off the shoulder and that we might benefit.'

Hughton's faith in the lone striker role which helped underpin a club record Premier League unbeaten run has restricted Jackson's opportunities to impress and the Canaries' boss concedes the Canadian arguably needs close support to flourish.

'It's difficult. I think it revolves a little bit around Wes (Hoolahan),' he said. 'I had made up my mind Wes was going to play at West Ham with Grant (Holt) and Steve (Morison) not playing. I am not saying it can't work but certainly against West Ham, who were a big, physical side and good on set pieces, it would have been difficult to play both of them. I think Simeon can do it but perhaps he needs a little bit more support around him. I do think that Simeon is better used in a two in some way – which means either a two up top or somebody playing a little bit closer to him. You can use that number 10 role as somebody who can play up top alongside or a little bit deeper, but you can get more out of Simeon with someone nearer him.'
