Sebastien Bassong admitted he was 'honoured' to lift the club's prestigious Barry Butler Memorial Trophy.

Bassong edged out Robert Snodgrass and Bradley Johnson in the player of the season poll to succeed Norwich City's three-time winner Grant Holt.

'It feels great. It is a great honour to be given an award and for the team to do well also,' the Cameroon international told the club's official site. 'It has been a great season for everyone. It has been a tough season for all of us. On a personal level I have been welcomed by everyone at the club. That helped me to settle down really quickly and all I have tried to do is give my best.

'To be voted by the fans is a great honour. You always try to give your best and to get this sort of praise it just makes you want to give them something back and try to be the best you can. My highlight was probably my first goal at Everton for Norwich. I'll never forget it. We had loads of good moments and I am so happy it has turned out well for the club.'
