Russell Martin’s rallying cry after Norwich City’s Premier League exit

Norwich City club captain Russell Martin admits team work will be the key to the Canaries' prospects of a quick return to the Premier League.

Martin is likely to be a key figure in the club's Championship campaign and the Scottish international has reiterated it is vital they re-discover the values that carried them from League One.

'Come 1st July when pre-season starts – whoever's in charge, whatever players are here or not – we'll make sure we're ready and geared to put this club back where it belongs,' he said. 'We'll go away now, into our summers with our families and have time to reflect. We've got the core of a fantastic squad – we're better than what we've shown a lot of the time this season.

'Around the place we've got some real characters, real good pros and that's why this time next year I fully believe we'll be here and it will be a bit more of a party than it is now.'

Martin, speaking earlier this week at the club's end-of-season dinner, insists they know what is required.

'The camaraderie is key to what we've achieved as a football club. It's a fantastic football club, with fantastic owners and fantastic fans, and that togetherness is what it's going to come down to,' he told the club's official site. 'We're not an Arsenal or a Man City, we can't afford to carry anyone, so the team as a whole must be much greater than its parts. We learn from our mistakes, but as players and people you tend to learn a lot from adversity. A lot more than you do when times are good, which we've had a lot of here the last few years.

'A lot of the lads here have done it before. It's up to us now. We take a lot of the responsibility as players, so let's dust ourselves down and drag this club next season to where we want.'
