Norwich City have stepped up their striker search with a reported £4.5m move for Roma's Italian international striker Matteo Destro.

The 24-year-old has been heavily tipped to move to Serie A rivals Bologna in recent days following Edin Dzeko's switch to the Italian capital for the new season but the Daily Mail claim City have made an attempt to bring Destro to England with a £4.5m offer.

City chief Alex Neil has made it clear he wants to add a new striker ahead of Saturday's Premier League trip to Sunderland with Dwight Gayle another hitman seemingly surplus to requirements at present club, Crystal Palace.

Destro has scored 24 goals in 57 appearances for the Romans but spent the second half of last season on loan at AC Milan, scoring three times in 15 outings. The 5ft 10in striker currently has eight senior caps for his country.
