The quiet early summer spell of transfer speculation is easing into second gear nicely, as supporters desperate for their football fix ignore that most involved in the game are away on their holidays.
The Daily Star have dragged up the old rumour linking Norwich City wing wizard Nathan Redmond with a move to Liverpool.
The tabloid claims the Reds’ manager Brendan Rodgers is considering the 21-year-old as a potential replacement for in-demand Raheem Sterling.
Redmond is one of many in the England Under-21 squad who are being linked with transfers.
Manager Gareth Southgate, preparing his squad for the European U21 Championship in Prague, has some simple advice for those players, telling the FA website: “We’ve got some boys who have been playing in the Championship and that’s been brilliant for their development really.
“From our perspective, at the age they’re at now, I don’t think it matters what the level is. But to be playing every week is really helpful and good for their development.”
City are reportedly interested in signing Iceland international striker Alfred Finnbogason on loan from Real Sociedad – but face competition from Everton.
Talksport claim former Toffees boss David Moyes wants to send the centre-forward out on loan to gain experience next season, as the 26-year-old only managed four goals in 33 appearances last season.
Sociedad signed Finnbogason from Dutch club Heerenveen for around £6million last summer but Moyes is reportedly keen for the big striker to play in the Premier League.
However that barren season followed two prolific campaigns in the Dutch Eredivisie, scoring 53 goals in 65 games for Heerenveen.
One player being linked with several Championship clubs is striker Luciano Becchio, who had his City contract ended a year early “by mutual consent” last week – but it seems he won’t be heading to Rotherham.
The Argentinian scored two goals in five games while on loan with the Millers before fracturing his heel.
“Players like Luciano are not on our immediate radar,” Millers boss Steve Evans claimed, speaking to his club’s official website.
“Everyone knows I have a fantastic relationship with the lad from his brief time with us, and people know how frustrated we were when he picked up his injury because we were starting to see him blossom.
“We have moved elsewhere now and he isn’t someone that we have spoken to as we look to put together our squad for next season.”
A genuine dismissal from the Scot, or brinkmanship with Becchio’s agent?
And some wishful thinking from a Bolton Wanderers fans’ website has been doing the rounds online as well, who claim Neil Lennon is hopeful of signing Canaries striker Gary Hooper on loan next season.
