Norwich City is tracking Cesena striker Gregoire Defrel, who is the subject of interest from a host of top flight Italian clubs.

Corriere dello Sport reported on Wednesday afternoon City had emerged as potential rivals for the signature of the 24-year-old, who looked set to join Serie A outfit Palermo ahead of the likes of Sampdoria, Bologna and French club St Etienne.

Palermo have reportedly reached agreement with Cesena to sign the former Parma youngster, who has scored 16 goals in 106 appearances for the 'Seahorses' were relegated from the Italian top flight last season.

Alex Neil completed his third signing of the summer on Wednesday with Robbie Brady completing his move from Hull but the City boss has also targeted a powerful frontman after pulling out of a deal for Celta Vigo striker Joaquin Larrivey. Neil has been touted with the likes of Liverpool's Rickie Lambert, Blackburn's Rudy Gestede and Crystal Palace's Glenn Murray.
