Crystal Palace striker Dwight Gayle is reportedly waiting to see if Norwich City's interest is serious before agreeing to join Bristol City.

The 24-year-old former Peterborough forward looked set to join the Championship new boys after a £6million fee was agreed.

However Gayle has been linked with the Canaries throughout this summer and, according to The Sun, is hoping the Robins' interest will now also draw a bid from City.

Alex Neil has already admitted he hopes to sign a new front-man but it remains to be seen if Gayle, who has scored 12 goals in 48 Premier League games for the Eagles, is a player he is interested in.

With Gayle yet to sign, Bristol have stepped up their interest in Brentford's Andre Grey as well and are said to be battling Hull City for the £7m-rated striker.

• Released Canaries defender Carlos Cuellar has found himself a new club, returning to Spain with second-tier side Almeria.

The 33-year-old played in his homeland with Osasuna at the start of his career before success in Scotland with Rangers and England with Aston Villa and Sunderland. The centre-back made 10 appearances last season for City.
