Norwich City midfielder Anthony Pilkington is poised to miss the first Republic of Ireland game later this week under the new management team of Martin O'Neill and Roy Keane after remaining in Norfolk for treatment on a dead leg suffered in the 3-1 Premier League win over West Ham.

The FAI released a statement on Monday night confirming the 25-year-old had not joined up with the Irish squad, who have their first training session under O'Neill and Keane on Tuesday morning ahead of Friday's Dublin friendly with Latvia.

Pilkington was forced off after 33 minutes against the Hammers at Carrow Road in Saturday's televised game with what Canaries' chief Chris Hughton initially outlined was a kick to his left hamstring area. The midfielder will now undergo further treatment with a final decision on whether Pilkington joins up with the Irish squad set to be made on Thursday.

The FAI statement read: 'Anthony Pilkington has emerged as an injury doubt after coming off during Norwich's clash against West Ham on Saturday with a dead leg. He will remain with his club until Thursday while his progress is monitored.'

Hull's Robbie Brady and Aston Villa defender Ciaran Clark have already been withdrawn from the Irish squad which includes Pilkington's Norwich team mate Wes Hoolahan.

Pilkington's international career has been dogged by a series of injury withdrawals before making his senior debut in September's 2-1 World Cup defeat to Sweden. The former Huddersfield flyer was also forced to pull out of caretaker boss Noel King's squad for the most recent final qualifiers against Germany and Kazakhstan.
