Harrison Reed is 'absolutely loving' his time on loan with Norwich City.

The Southampton midfielder has made 27 appearances for the Canaries so far, as he spends a season away from the south coast.

His development took on an added dimension on Saturday when he put in admirable effort as emergency cover at right wing-back during City's 1-0 win at Brentford – on the day of his 23rd birthday.

'I'm absolutely loving it, I can't thank the club enough, giving me the opportunity to come and learn my trade,' said Reed.

'I haven't had as many games as I would have liked with Southampton so to come away and play in the Championship – which is a very hard, competitive league – is great for me.

'And playing right-back, it's all part of things I'm learning and that's what I've come to do!'

The former England Under-20 international is under contract at Southampton until the summer of 2021, so made the temporary switch with his long-term future already secured.

Saints are keeping a close eye on their academy product as well, who has made 30 appearances for his boyhood club since making his debut as an 18-year-old back in August 2013.

'They get all my clips from every game, all my data from training, all my injuries and stuff like that,' he explained.

'I have a text from them after every game to see how I felt, and then they'll go back, watch the clips, and see what they felt and give me feedback.'

While the tenacious midfielder hasn't quite managed to nail down a starting berth under Daniel Farke, he has still played a prominent role in the campaign so far.

With an eight-point gap to the play-offs ahead of a home game against fellow top-six hopefuls Middlesbrough to come on Saturday, Reed is relishing the remainder of his loan.

'I don't think the pressure is off at all, we know as a squad we should be around the play-offs,' the Saints prospect continued.

'So the pressure is on us, we know the fans want us to be up there. So it's game by game, that's easier than thinking 'if we win the next three we'll be in the play-offs'. We need to take it game by game and that's what we'll be doing from now on.'
