Norwich City may have to up their bid to bring Gary Hooper to Carrow Road, after Queen's Park Rangers reportedly 'closed in' on signing the Celtic striker.

Harry Redknapp has increased his Championship side's offer to near £5m for the 25-year-old, topping the £4m reportedly offered by City – which supposedly included a Monday evening deadline from the Canaries for it to be accepted. BBC Sport believe personal terms are also almost finalised between Rangers and Hooper, who will sit out the Champions League game at Cliftonville with an groin injury.

Stoke are also said to be monitoring the situation.

Reports in Italy have suggested City's aim of signing Juventus striker Fabio Quagliarella will hinge on whether the player fancies the move. The Italian likes the idea of the Premier League – the question mark may be over the club Southampton are also keeping an eye on events.

Meanwhile, City's hopes of landing Ajax defender Toby Alderweireld may not be completely over – at least according to his dad.

The player's agent has stated a move to Norwich was off due to personal terms, but dad Vic told the Antwerp Gazette City are more 'in the waiting room'.

'We think it's too early now to go into an offer,' he said.

'The transfer window lasts six weeks. We have not rejected the offer, but is set to 'on hold'.'

In the meantime, Everton are expected to make their intentions clear over the 24-year-old Belgian international.
