Stiepermann proves an important cog in the machine again as resurgent City win at QPR

Rejuvenated midfielder Marco Stiepermann was the focus of our latest Norwich City player watch, during last night’s 1-0 victory at Queens Park Rangers.
The 27-year-old’s emergence as a solid attacking midfield option continued at Loftus Road as City won their third successive game, with his cross leading to Teemu Pukki’s winner.
Here are the key moments from Stiepermann’s match...
3 – Drops deep to take possession from Alex Tettey and sprays a nice ball to the left wing but Jamal Lewis can’t control the greasy ball.
5 – Nips in to intercept Joel Lynch’s pass and knocks back calmly to Christoph Zimmermann.
6 – Tackles Alex Baptiste to help out Lewis on the left and ensure City retain possession.
8 – Tests home keeper Joe Lumley with a shot from the edge of the box after fine play from Todd Cantwell and Teemu Pukki on the left but his low effort is held comfortably enough.
12 – Charges backwards to try and stop Luke Freeman on the right but barges the Rs midfielder over and concedes a free-kick.
16 – Found by Cantwell and tries to slip Pukki into the left channel but Toni Leistner makes a timely interception.
20 – Looping ball to Lewis on the left, eventually comes back to him and plays Cantwell into the box, who over-plays the ball out of play after a fine initial bit of skill.
22 – Spreads left to Cantwell, who plays Lewis down the left and his low cross has just too much on it for Pukki at the back post.
28 – Takes the ball from Moritz Leitner and tries to push forward on the left but heavy touch and fouls Josh Scowen.
30 – Cantwell threads Pukki through on the left, he cuts back and Stiepermann is close by so has to dig out a low shot, which Lumley holds.
40 – Collects Klose’s pass nicely and turns before lifting a fine ball over the top to set Lewis away on the left, whose cross is pulled behind the on-running Pukki.
48 – Cantwell pass plays him under pressure and loose ball given away to Ebere Eze.
52 – Keeps control of the ball and is fouled by Baptiste on halfway.
57 – Wayward Lynch header falls to the German, who threads a wonderful ball through to Pukki on the right, squeezing through a gap, Tettey and Cantwell eventually both see shots blocked.
71 – ASSIST – Lovely back-heeled flick from Cantwell allows Stiepermann to cross from the left, which is deflected by Baptiste but Pukki adjusts nicely to chest past Lumley from close range and spark the celebrations at the away end.
82 – Nice turn and run down the left but can’t find Pukki.
86 – Slips in midfield and Luongo sets Osayi-Samuel away on the right. Eventually is the man to blast the danger clear after a goalmouth scramble from a corner.
89 – Lewis tears down the left before playing Stiepermann into the box, but his low cross is behind Vrancic and Pukki.
Verdict: Another really solid, if unspectacular, shift from the German full of creative passing, driving runs and strong work defensively. Earned his luck for the assist but could have done better with shooting opportunities in the first half. Has become an important cog in the Canaries machine.
