Not the Premier League debut Leroy Fer would have been looking for but the Dutch international showcased his versatility in a difficult shift at the KC Stadium.
Fer was inches from a debut day goal inside the opening minutes with a header that dropped wide.
He was also the one to drift deeper to facilitate Johan Elmander's arrival in the second period.
