John Ruddy insists his future can wait as he bids to help get Norwich City back in the Championship promotion race.
The Canaries' number one was a commanding figure in the 1-0 league win at Cardiff City, and Alex Neil's squad can move back into the play-off places with victory at Wigan on Tuesday. Ruddy is out of contract at the end of the season, although the club can trigger a further one year option to keep the 30-year-old, who was heavily linked to Sunderland at the start of the campaign.
'What happened last summer, happened. There was obviously talk and I have always maintained in the seven years I have been here unless the club come and tell me they have accepted a bid then I am happy here,' he said. 'I have a lot of time for this place. It has given me everything I have in football and I am grateful for that. My situation now is this coming summer I am effectively out of contract. The club has an option for another year so they are in a good position where they can keep hold of me and I am in a good position either way.
'First and foremost, I want another promotion under my belt with Norwich and to take this club to where they want to be. Anything else is a conversation way down the line. When the club deem it necessary to have those talks I will sit down with them. Right now all that matters is winning games. My future at this stage is not important.'
Ruddy knows the value of another successful road trip at Wigan.
'We win we go back into the play-offs. We have 17 games left. That is a lot of points to play for and in that respect we are perhaps in a better situation than two years ago when we got promoted,' he said. 'A lot of the lads know what is required. I have been fortunate on a personal level that when we have been in this league it has just been for one season at a time and I would like that run to continue. This is a key month now with games coming thick and fast, culminating in the derby, but the most important one is Wigan.'
Ruddy is targeting a third consecutive clean sheet against the Latics.
'It is good for me, good for the lads. It showed on Saturday if you can keep a clean sheet you just need one at the other end and Cameron (Jerome) popped up with the winner,' he said. 'Defensively we did our job and if you combine those two factors it equals three points. You shouldn't have to rely on us scoring two or three goals.'
