Goals from Steve Morison and James Vaughan gave Norwich City a comfortable victory over Championship side Peterborough in the London Road sunshine.

Morison struck after 32 minutes when he beat Posh goalkeeper Bobby Olejnik from close range to open his pre-season account.

Second-half substitute Vaughan rasped home the second from Grant's Holt pass with five minutes left, his third goal in eight days.

It was a second friendly success on the road for City after their 1-0 victory at Celtic, but travelling fans hoping to see new faces in action were disappointed as none of manager Chris Hughton's four summer signings were included in the 21 players on duty.

The latest arrivals, winger Robert Snodgrass from Leeds and defender Michael Turner from Sunderland, were absent, while midfielder Jacob Butterfield has yet to appear, continuing his recovery after seven months out with a knee injury.

Defender Steven Whittaker, who suffered an ankle injury in Tuesday's win at Celtic, was also out of action.

Midfielder David Fox was still sidelined by a leg injury picked up in the first week of training.

Russell Martin, returning to his former club, led out City's first half eleven, which featured Declan Rudd in goal. Steve Morison was acting as central striker, with Chris Martin playing a wide right role and Simeon Jackson wide on the left.

A neat move gave City an opening after seven minutes, but Russell Martin's cross was just out of reach of Jackson.

Posh should have moved ahead in the 12th minute but Tyrone Barnett headed over from Boyd's cross after Taylor had harried the ball away from Leon Barnett.

Morison curled a poor effort well off target as the Canaries pushed forward again, and the striker managed to get on the end of Hoolahan's cross after 20 minutes but his downward header was clutched at the second attempt by goalkeeper Olejnik.

Hoolahan played a neat one-two with Surman before his shot was deflected off Zakuani into the 'keeper's hands.

Jackson did well to ride two challenges as he cut in from the left but fired the wrong side of the post.

For Posh, Knight-Percival put a free header wide from a McCann corner when he might have done better.

Morison floated one shot just over the top but went one better in the 32nd minute when he gave City the lead. Lappin's cross from the left was only partly cleared, and Surman helped the ball back to the striker, who lifted a close-range effort over Olejnik.

Crofts was off target with a couple of long-range shots, and Mendez-Laing cleared the bar with an ambitious attempt at the other end.

McCann found the side netting in first-half stoppage time.

• Half-time: Peterborough United 0, Norwich City 1

City made one change at the interval as one former Posh man replaced another, Ryan Bennett taking Russell Martin's place at right-back.

Jackson had the first opening of the second period when he fired powerfully across goal after a glorious crossfield pass from Hoolahan.

Jackson then tested Olejnik with a smart effort from Surman's pass, before the 'keeper foiled Chris Martin with his legs.

Rudd was brought into action by Tyrone Barnett as Posh hit back, then saved again from a tight angle from Taylor after a quickly-taken throw-in.

Olejnik palmed away a Hoolahan cross to deny Morison the chance to make it 2-0, then the'keeper raced out to beat Chris Martin to Jackson's through-ball.

Posh made seven changes as the game entered its final quarter and, with 20 minutes to go, Hughton went one better by introducing eight substitutes, leaving Rudd and Leon Barnett as the only players on from the start.

One of the Peterborough replacements, Ajose, flashed a shot wide with nine minutes to go.

City made the game safe after 85 minutes when Vaughan rifled in a rising shot from Holt's pass, his third goal in as many matches.
