Chris Hughton is fully prepared to make further signings to equip Norwich City for Premier League combat.

The Canaries' chief sealed a double deal for Leeds captain Robert Snodgrass and Sunderland centre-back Michael Turner on the eve of Saturday's 2-0 friendly win at Peterborough.

Both could play some part in tomorrow's home opener against Ajax after following Steven Whittaker and Jacob Butterfield to Norfolk this summer. Hughton insists City will continue to take an active interest in the transfer market – but only if the figures add up.

'We have a certain budget and we have to conduct our business within that,' he said. 'Will we be paying the same wages of the top clubs? No, we won't, but we are not alone in that. We won't be the only ones.

'We have to cut our cloth accordingly and we work within the structure of our club and that is one that everyone here respects and understands. Anyone who comes in will do so under our structure. There are good players in the Championship, abroad and in the Premier League. We have to do our business the best way we can.

'We've brought in four players who I would like to think will benefit the team and the squad and we look forward to continually searching to improve the squad. If we do, great, if we don't then we can work with very good quality already here.'

Hughton admitted City's successful pursuit of Scottish international midfielder Snodgrass completed a long-term chase by the Canaries.

'It's been rumbling on for quite some time. There has been an interest from this club for quite some time and we are delighted to have got in front of whoever else to secure his services,' said Hughton. 'He is another flexible player that can play in a good few positions, he adds goals and he is a good age. We have a lot of competition and options and choices in that midfield and it is our job to get the right balance. Speaking to him he is absolutely delighted with the move and very much looking forward to playing at a level that he has strived for.'

Turner could also make his first public appearance this week for the Canaries after completing his north-east move from Sunderland.

'Michael is a player of Premier League experience and a good age. By our standards we are a relatively young squad and if I am able to bring in that little of experience I think we can benefit from that,' he said.

'The two lads could possibly be involved on Tuesday.

'Whether they would start on Tuesday I am not sure. They haven't trained with us yet.'
