Norwich City defender Daniel Ayala is reported to be close to joining Nottingham Forest on a season-long loan.

Forest are said to be in negotiations with the Canaries with a view to the 21-year-old Spanish centre-half becoming manager Sean O'Driscoll's fourth new defender of the close season.

Ayala, who joined the Canaries from Liverpool for a reported 800,000 fee last summer, made 10 first team appearances last season but was sidelined for long spells by knee and hamstring injuries.

He has previous experience in the Championship, from loan spells with both Hull City and Derby County.

Ayala's latest outing for City was as a late substitute for Elliott Ward in Tuesday's 1-1 friendly draw against Ajax at Carrow Road.
