Norwich City academy product Carlton Morris is hoping to fulfil a boyhood dream by playing at Wembley this afternoon.

The striker, along with fellow Canaries loanee Ben Godfrey, is hoping to start when Shrewsbury take on League Two side Lincoln City in the televised Checkatrade Trophy final (3pm kick-off).

'I've already had some important games in my career, but this will be up there,' Morris said. 'In terms of a one-off occasion, it's probably the biggest. I'm really looking forward to it.

'It's every young players' dream to play at Wembley, and hopefully I can do that on Sunday. There are boys in the team who are lot older than me, and it will be their first time playing there as well.

'To get that opportunity so early on in my career is a privilege. Hopefully there will be more chances to play there in the future.'

The 22-year-old has scored nine goals in 45 games for the Shrews so far this season, with his selfless work as a target man earning plenty of praise from supporters as Paul Hurst's side have managed a surprise title pursuit in League One.

He has taken his career total to 19 goals in 109 games following previous loans at Oxford, York, Hamilton and Rotherham as he continues to try and earn a future chance of adding to his solitary Norwich appearance, as a late substitute during a 1-0 defeat to Wigan in the Championship back in March 2015.

'At Hamilton, we had a relegation battle on our hands. At York, we were struggling,' Morris said of his loan experiences, speaking to City's official website.

'The success of Shrewsbury, pushing for promotion, it's another different experience. All that will help me later on in my career.

'It's definitely been the most successful season of my career. In terms of learning things though, that happens all the time and sometimes even more in your very first loans.

'This one has been very successful, very enjoyable.'

With a contract until 2020 the striker is hoping for a chance to impress Canaries boss Daniel Farke during pre-season this coming summer but he still has plenty on his plate in Shropshire first.

The Shrews are already assured of a play-off place but slipped to third yesterday due to wins for title rivals Blackburn and Wigan. That all goes on the back-burner this afternoon though with Wembley glory within reach.

'We always concentrate on the next game,' he added. 'This game is our priority for now, then it will be back to the league. Throughout the season, we've always taken it one game at a time.

'It's one reason why we've been so successful. The camaraderie we have in the dressing room has taken us a long way too.

'You can see that from our results. We're a close-knit team. One thing I've really learned this season is how important that is to success.'
