Norwich City's on-loan striker Harry Kane struck a brace on his first outing for the club since recovering from a broken foot injury to inspire Scott Marshall's youngsters to a 3-1 development league win today over the Hammers at Colney.

Kane played 65 minutes as he looked to edge closer to full fitness following the injury setback suffered in City's Capital One Cup win over Doncaster early in his season-long loan spell. Norwich manager Chris Hughton has already pledged not to rush the 19-year-old Tottenham forward back into the first team set-up after he only re-joined the Canaries last week following the foot injury that has restricted him to three senior appearances.

Kane pounced from close range after impressive work from Jamar Loza before Olumide Durojaiye slotted a second half penalty when Kane was fouled inside the West Ham area. The England youth international then reacted quickest to despatch Jacob Murphy's cross to seal the comprehensive win, before Nathan Mavila grabbed a late consolation for the visitors. Marshall hailed Kane's impact in an encouraging team performance against the table toppers that rounded off Norwich's first phase of development fixtures.

'I'm delighted with the win, the lads played very well, kept their discipline and understood their roles really well,' Marshall told the club's official site. 'It was great to have a presence like Harry in the side at this level and it was great for him as well to get the two goals. It's a good result for us which we can now take into the next round of matches.'

Kane served notice of his intentions when he rifled a Josh Murphy cross over the bar before slamming the woodwork a few minutes later. West Ham's Welsh international Jack Collison glanced a header wide on his first outing since overcoming a long term injury that has kept the midfielder out of the Hammers' Premier League plans.

Kane broke the deadlock just before the half-hour mark after Josh Murphy and Loza had carved West Ham apart before the Norwich loanee tried an ambitious lift from inside his own half which flew wide of Raphael Spiegel's goal.

City doubled their lead shortly after the restart when Kane tumbled under Pelly Ruddock's challenge - Durojaiye calmly slotted to open his goal account for the development squad. West Ham spurned a chance from the penalty spot to reduce the arrears in the 55th minute when Remi Matthews superbly denied Mavila. Kane made the Londoners pay when he applied the killer touch to a swift counter triggered by Jacob Murphy. Spiegel acrobatically denied Michael Clunan with City now rampant, but it was the visitors' who had the final say when Mavila's angled strike flew past Matthews.
