Sunderland are in talks with Norwich City over a move for John Ruddy according to reports.

Sunderland have had a bid for Norwich City goalkeeper John Ruddy rejected according to reports.

Black Cats boss David Moyes has targeted the 29-year-old after Vito Mannone fractured his elbow, ruling him out for three months leaving only Jordan Pickford as his only senior goalkeeper. Talks are apparently ongoing and Sunderland could return with an improved bid.

Ruddy is currently sidelined with a groin injury but is expected to return to action in the next couple of weeks. The one-cap England international has had a mixed 12 months at Carrow Road after he was dropped last season following a loss of form although he did regain his place in the run-in.

Michael McGovern’s arrival from Hamilton raised further questions over his City future but Ruddy has been Alex Neil’s first choice this season before suffering an injury against Sheffield Wednesday.

If Ruddy’s move to the Stadium of Light goes through it would leave just McGovern and Paul Jones as the Canaries’ only two senior goalkeepers with Declan Rudd on loan at Charlton and Remi Matthews at Hamilton.
