The 32-year-old Canaries' stopper was touted with a potential loan move to South Yorkshire in recent days, but the Rotherham Advertiser reported on Sunday that Norwich City fan, and Millers' chief Paul Warne, is not interested in a close season swoop for McGovern.

The former Celtic trainee still has two years left on his existing Carrow Road deal, after arriving on a free transfer last summer following his impressive exploits at Euro2016.

McGovern made 22 appearances for the Canaries in his debut campaign but finished the season behind John Ruddy in the pecking order.

Ruddy has since been released, as part of a bid to lower the wage bill under new sporting director Stuart Webber and overhaul the squad for a Championship promotion push next season.

Declan Rudd was handed a one-year contract extension earlier this month, while the likes of Remi Matthews and Paul Jones are also on the books. McGovern was back at his old club Hamilton Academical on Saturday to watch on-loan Matthews keep a clean sheet in Accies' crucial 4-0 Scottish Premiership win over Dundee, which sets up a two-legged play-off against Dundee United this week for a place in next season's Scottish top flight.

Meanwhile, Seb Bassong could be heading to Turkey after being heavily linked with Bursaspor. Turkish daily sports newspaper, Fanatik, claim Bassong has already held talks over a proposed move that would end his nine-year stay in England.

The 30-year-old was among seven senior Norwich City players given free transfers earlier this month. Bassong penned a farewell letter to the City support as he prepared to head for the Carrow Road exit.
