Norwich City have been touted with a swoop for highly-rated French U19 European Championship winning centre back Jérôme Onguéné.
Reports suggested the 18-year-old was at Carrow Road to watch Saturday’s 0-0 Championship draw with Sheffield Wednesday, after being an unsued substitute on Friday night for his club Sochaux in their Ligue Two 2-1 away win at Clermont.
The Cameroon-born defender has been a regular in the Sochaux line up for the past two seasons, and represented France at every international age group since he was 15, culminating in a successful European Championship this summer when the French hammered their Italian counterparts 4-0 in the final held in Germany.
The 6ft 3in prospect would fit the profile for Neil who has made no secret of his desire to build for the longer term by attracting young talent to Carrow Road along with targeting an instant Premier League return.
Timm Klose and Ryan Bennett appear to be the Scot’s first choice central defensive pair at the start of the Championship campaign with the likes of Seb Bassong and Michael Turner currently down the pecking order.
