Norwich City target Elliott Bennett has handed in a transfer request at Brighton.

Brighton chairman Tony Bloom today confirmed the 22-year-old winger has submitted a transfer request, but says the situation remains unchanged.

The Albion chairman also says he fully expects the winger to still be with the club this time next week, after the transfer window closes at 11pm on Monday.

He told the club's official website: 'Nothing has changed. We do not want to sell Elliott, we don't need to sell the player.'

City boss Paul Lambert has admitted to making inquiries for the 1m-rated Bennett, who has been in outstanding form for the League One leaders this season.

Lambert shed no fresh light on a potential deal when he said today: 'We've made an inquiry and that's where it is at the minute.

'Brighton said what they said the other week so we'll have to wait and see what happens over the next few days. I haven't heard anything.'

He admitted he was looking at other options but said there was no definite deal imminent.

'There are one or two other calls I've made but they're not stone cold certainties either,' he said.

'If it doesn't happen I've got a brilliant group of lads who are playing really, really well at the minute and we're doing really fine.'
