Norwich City striker Steve Morison believes this week's World Cup qualifying derby against Celtic rivals Scotland can double as a perfect pick-me-up from the Canaries' Premier League struggles.

Morison could come face-to-face with City team mate Russell Martin on Friday in Cardiff for a crucial match the frontman labels a 'must-win' tie for both countries.

'It's going to be a great game; a massive game,' he said. 'One we are thoroughly looking forward to and maybe a break from the club side of things. It's definitely a must-win for both sides. I know Scotland have got two points on the board but the danger already is teams getting away from you. We need three points and we have to start somewhere. Everyone has reported for duty in the squad. We are all raring to go and hopefully we have a good week's training and on Friday we can get our first win. We are only a few points behind everyone else.'

Morison, speaking to Talksport on Tuesday, admitted the Canaries have been heavily punished at both ends of the pitch this season.

'It's tough. We have had some very tough games and they do not get any easier with Arsenal up next but we need to keep our heads up and keep going strong and hopefully that win will come,' he said. 'It happened last year where we got the first win and we managed to go on a nice little run and we have created chances in games. The West Ham game, we should have won that, the QPR game, we should have won that if you look on chances, but against the top teams we seem to be giving too many chances away. You can't give these players that many chances because you know they will take them.'

Morison has fared little better on Welsh duty this campaign after Chris Coleman's squad suffered defeats to Belgium and Serbia in their opening two qualifiers. Coleman has replaced Arsenal midfielder Aaron Ramsey as captain of the national side after the recent 6-1 away hammering in Serbia with Swansea's Ashley Williams leading out the side against the Scots.

'It was a bit of a surprise because everyone just thought Aaron was captain so I never saw that coming,' said Morison. 'The first I knew was when I read about it on the internet, like most people. The gaffer said in an interview that he wants to make a few changes and one of those was the captain. It doesn't change the dynamics within the squad. We all stay the same and carry on as normal. The manager is very, very passionate. He wants to win every game but this one might just have that extra edge. As a player if you struggle to get up for a game like this then you need to have a look at yourself.'
