Norwich City striker James Vaughan is to make himself available for Jamaica for their World Cup qualifying campaign.

Vaughan, on a season-long loan at Huddersfield, is one of seven United Kingdom-born players recruited by the Jamaica Football Federation to strengthen the Reggae Boyz ahead of next year's final phase of Concacaf World Cup qualifiers, which begin in February.

They are now part of a pool of players eligible for selection by the technical staff.

The 24-year-old Vaughan, born in Birmingham, won four England Under-21 caps during his time with Everton.

He has scored three times in eight Championship appearances for Huddersfield, but has been sidelined for five weeks by a thigh injury.

JFF president, Captain Horace Burrell, head coach Theodore Whitmore and assistant coach Alfredo Montesso held negotiations with the players during a recent scouting trip to England.

Burrell said the seven had committed themselves to representing the Reggae Boyz and they were securing the relevant documentation for the players, ahead of their opening game against Mexico in Mexico City on February 6.

'I am here to report to you all that it was a very successful trip to the United Kingdom,' said Burrell. 'We went on the scouting mission because it is the policy of the JFF that we should have the best 11 players on the field at all times,' he said.

Reading pair Jobi McAnuff and Garath McCleary, Watford's Lloyd Doyley, Jermaine Beckford – on loan from Leicester to Huddersfield – Burnley's Marvin Bartley and Derby's Theo Robinson have also been added to the Jamaican pool.

McAnuff has been called up for the second time after making his debut for Jamaica against Nigeria in 2002.
