City skipper Grant Holt will be suspended for next Saturday's Championship home match against Portsmouth after picking up his fifth yellow card of the season.

Holt was booked by Hampshire referee Keith Stroud in the closing stages of the 2-1 win at Derby for time wasting and must serve a one-match ban.

Manager Paul Lambert felt the caution was avoidable but knew Holt, pictured, was close to a ban after four previous yellow cards.

'I just said to him it's silly for what he does and the way he's been playing of late. It's a loss, it's a silly booking and I'm pretty sure he'll see that himself,' said Lambert.

'But that's the game. If it wasn't going to happen now, it might have happened next week. Whoever comes in, I'm sure he will do the best he can.'

Simeon Jackson appears favourite to step in against Pompey at Carrow Road.
