Norwich City's on-loan midfielder Jacob Murphy is relishing the pressure of a League One promotion push with Coventry City.

Murphy's last weekend brace helped sink another of his former loan clubs Colchester United to move Tony Mowbray's squad joint top alongside Gillingham.

The Sky Blues host the Gills at the Ricoh on Saturday and Coventry's bid to move clear of the chasing pack is set to be boosted further by the returns of fellow Premier League loan starlets Adam Armstrong and Ryan Kent from loan duty.

Murphy grabbed his chance in a central striking role against the Us but League One's leading marksman Armstrong is back in the fold after captaining England's Under-19s against Holland.

'It's really nice to be in the automatic promotion spots and I think it's well deserved, so credit to all the boys and all the hard work they have done,' said Murphy. 'We need to keep our momentum going in the league. If we get to Christmas time and still be in and around the top we will be doing well. It's a huge game but we'll be ready for it. We have got our confidence back after the FA Cup defeat (against Northampton). We've just scored three goals away from home so we'll be raring to go against Gillingham and with Kenty and Arma back at the weekend we will be even stronger and ready for the battle.'

Murphy has scored three goals in his last two games and the City youngster's display at Colchester underlined he has a key role to play during his season-long loan switch.

'It was a really professional performance,' he said. 'It's so important when you are at this end of the table that you can see out games and get victories. The style of football suits my game and it suits a lot of the players. We have balanced the attacking side with the defending and that's important if you want to be at the right end of the league at the end of the season.'

Murphy is one of a number of Norwich's academy talent looking to impress Alex Neil before returning to Carrow Road. Carlton Morris is a regular at Neil's old club, Hamilton, in the Scottish Premiership after moving north on an initial loan deal until January. The 19-year-old striker has scored twice in 13 appearances and aims to dent Aberdeen's title push this weekend after slipping up against Hearts' prior to the international break.

'It will be a tough game but New Douglas Park isn't an easy place to go to,' he said.

'You always want the next match when you lose, but when you're on a good run it's instilled into the team that you never get too high, so we won't get too low. We're a positive-thinking team.

'I don't think it was the case that Hearts were the better team; we made two unfortunate mistakes.'
