Leroy Fer is convinced his fellow Dutch import Ricky van Wolfswinkel will weigh in with goals for Norwich City.

Van Wolfswinkel has failed to add to his solitary strike on the opening day of the Premier League season in a debut campaign blighted by injury.

The 24-year-old was agonisingly close to a vital late winner in the weekend's 0-0 goalless draw with Manchester City, but his international team mate Fer believes it is only a matter of time.

'Of course the goals will come. He is a really good striker,' said Fer. 'It's not just Ricky but we have Gary Hooper and Johan Elmander. As a team we want to score goals. He had a good chance at the end against Manchester City and the ball went between his legs. There is a little bit of luck involved but I know in the future he will score goals for us. Everybody knows Ricky is a striker who has scored a lot of goals in his career and he is still doing the same things and in the future his goals will come.'

Fer himself was denied by Joe Hart in the first half against the Blues and the powerful midfielder would love to add to his own four goal tally.

'Yes, I would like to have scored more goals,' he said. 'The keeper at Cardiff made a great save from a header recently and it was the same against Manchester City when Hart made a really good save. I always want to score more goals and be very important for the team.'

Fer came face-to-face with one of his idols in the weekend Premier League 0-0 draw with Manchester City, and Yaya Toure's shirt is now a cherished momento.

'We swapped shirts and it is already in a frame. I was happy with that,' he said. 'He is a really good player. He has been a big player in the Premier League and also at Barcelona. I love the challenge of playing against him and that was good for me.

'It was a massive point against a really good side. They are going for the title so for me that is a good point. Having Alex (Tettey) back in the side gave me a little bit more freedom.

'I am a player who wants to attack and defend and on Saturday I played in front of Bradley (Johnson) and Alex. I like that freedom in my game. We looked very solid and that I think should be a big compliment to all the lads. We defended really well and we have to carry that on.'

Fer accepts West Ham present a different type of challenge at Upton Park on Tuesday night.

'I think it is a plus for us that Andy Carroll is not playing because he is a really good striker. But they have another good player in Kevin Nolan who has been doing well in the centre forward position,' he said. 'We just want to win the game, how we do it doesn't matter and we will do everything to achieve that.

'We must take each game and treat it as the most important. We know we are strong at home and we showed that against Manchester City.

'We all know here that to stay out of the bottom three we have to win games. I felt we did enough to do that at Cardiff when we had eight or nine chances to get the second goal and we didn't take them. We never go to any game looking for a point, we want to take all three and especially against a team like West Ham around us.'
