Thousands of Canaries fans will be able to cheer on Norwich City's promotion winning side when they parade through the city in an open-topped bus.

A reception is being hosted by the city council and the club at City Hall in Norwich on Tuesday, May 10 to mark the Canaries' promotion to the Premier League and fans will be able to see the players as they leave the civic celebration.

And in keeping with tradition, they will appear on the balcony to salute the crowds gathered to celebrate the club's second consecutive promotion-winning season.

Laura McGillivray, chief executive of Norwich City Council, said they were delighted to host the celebration and said the club's return to the Premier League was a massive boost for the entire city.

She said: 'This is an unbelievable achievement for the football club just one year after its supporters celebrated promotion from League One to the Championship and this will be a fantastic opportunity for everyone to congratulate the players and join in the celebrations.

'Being back in the Premier League will put Norwich on the national and international stage and will be worth millions of pounds to the economy in terms of increased visitor numbers and attracting business investment. This is our way of congratulating the Canaries and their fans and celebrating what is amazing news for everyone in Norwich.'

Norwich City Football Club chief executive David McNally said he was thrilled the council had invited the club to a civic reception.

He said: 'I'm delighted supporters will be given the opportunity to show their appreciation for Paul Lambert, his backroom team and their marvellous players. It really is astonishing that they have achieved back-to-back promotions, so please come and show your support for our victorious team.

'A big thank you also to our main club sponsors Aviva for once again sponsoring the celebrations.'

Heather Smith, head of sponsorship and corporate responsibility at Aviva, said: 'It's a fantastic achievement by Norwich City to reach the Premier League. We are delighted to be sponsoring the civic event to give the fans and wider community a chance to see the team and join in the celebrations.'

The reception will take place in the early evening and full details about timings and the parade route will be confirmed shortly.
