Norwich City's on-loan defender Joseph Yobo will miss the Premier League trip to Manchester United with the Nigerian international undergoing further treatment on a calf injury.

City boss Neil Adams confirmed on Thursday lunchtime Yobo could return for the penultimate game at Chelsea to bolster the club's survival push. Adams has reported no fresh injury concerns, with fit-again midfielder Elliott Bennett now firmly in contention after his fourth development game earlier this week since returning from knee ligament surgery.

'Elliott will be in the squad. He just needed games and I think he's proved that. He's played three and a half games for the Under-21s and he's ready now,' said Adams. 'His knee is fine and all the medical people we spoke to say he's ready if needs be, so we're delighted for him. The kind of attitude he's got and the kind of player he is, he's one we need back and we'll welcome him back into the squad.

'Joseph is still having treatment on his calf but we are hopeful of getting him back in on Monday. He still has a problem and he won't be ready for this weekend.'

Adams is downplaying the significance of David Moyes' surprise exit at Old Trafford earlier this week with Ryan Giggs poised for his first match in charge as the interim boss.

'It's an interesting one. I don't think many people would have predicted myself and Ryan Giggs standing in opposite dugouts at the start of the season,' he said. 'It's happened, whether it's a good or bad for us we'll see on Saturday. It's one of those things that caught everybody by surprise I think, despite the poor season relatively speaking that United have had. You're thinking about which players he might bring back in, which players he's played with, and we've all seen the coaching staff he's brought in, who will have the same values and philosophies and who came through under Sir Alex Ferguson.

'You want to go there and win. I want to come away from Old Trafford with three points. We saw from the second half against Liverpool that it's irrelevant whether you're underdogs or not expected to win, it's about you and how you go about your business. Manchester United have been a lot stronger in previous seasons. It's not been a great season for them by any means. There's never a nice time to go to Old Trafford though – you're always going to be in for a tough game because of the calibre of players they've got. We'll be ready for them, we know what they're capable of but also I hope they're concerned a little bit about what we can do as well.'
