Michael Turner is not prepared to raise the white flag after starring in his own version of the Premier League's great escape.

The 30-year-old was an ever-present in the Hull City side who survived on the final day of the 2009 top flight campaign, despite losing at home to Manchester United. The Tigers would have been relegated if closest rivals Newcastle could have mustered an equaliser in a 1-0 defeat at Villa Park and that experience has armed the Norwich centre-back with an acute sense of what is still possible in the face of mounting odds.

Turner knows few will predict anything other than a ninth consecutive away league defeat of 2014 when they head to Chelsea this weekend fresh from a 4-0 pummelling at Manchester United.

'From the players' point of view we still believe,' he said. 'We will give it everything we have got and hopefully that will be enough. We are fighting for our lives and we will not give up. We stayed up on the last day at Hull because Aston Villa did us a favour by beating Newcastle. We lost at home to United and it proves you have to keep fighting until the end. You can never give up. Funny things happen in football and that has been shown again this season because the top and the bottom is very exciting.

'We have played well in recent games and come away with nothing. The manager makes the point we would rather not play well if it meant we picked up some points so we just have to keep plugging away and give it our all. With two games to go and us in the bottom three we need to forget about what has gone before and treat this game as a cup final.'

The Londoner accepts City need help from other sources after failing to capitalise on his former club's comeback at Fulham prior to their game at the Theatre of Dreams.

'Obviously we need someone else to do us a favour now. It is out of our hands,' he said. 'I'm sure as we travel down we will be well aware of the other results, but when it comes to Sunday we need to make sure we do ourselves justice.

'It is about what we do first and foremost. It is up to us to get points to help ourselves.

'We can't influence the other teams. Hull getting a point at Fulham was a boost but we didn't make the most of that at United.'
