Norwich City's on loan striker James Vaughan has become an instant hit with Huddersfield fans as he bids to prolong an impressive start to his season-long stint in tonight's latest Championship trip to Sheffield Wednesday.

Vaughan's arrival has coincided with seven points from the Terriers' last three league games and the 24-year-old received a standing ovation when he was withdrawn a minute from normal time in Saturday's 1-0 home win over Derby.

'The fans have been brilliant with me and right behind me ever since I came to the club, and we are all thriving off the support they are giving us,' he said. 'Hopefully we can keep repaying them with more wins and more good performances on the pitch. It's really good, and it's great to be out there with the lads, digging in like everyone else to get the results we want. It was a fantastic win for us against Derby and those are the sorts of games we should be very proud of winning. It was a tough game with not much in it, so to come out with three points shows the character we've got in the squad.

'Hopefully we can now build on what we've shown in the last few games and keep pushing on.'

Vaughan had an eventful away debut at Ipswich, which saw him score but miss a penalty at Portman Road. The former Evertonian is predicting a backlash at Hillsborough tonight following Wednesday's 3-0 league humbling at Brighton.

'Everyone knows how tough this division is, as was evidenced by the way we had to battle against Derby, and I'm sure it will be the same at Wednesday,' he said. 'They are a good, hard-working side – all Dave Jones's teams are like that – and I know Anthony Gardner from my time at (Crystal) Palace, who is a good defender, so I'm looking forward to testing myself against the likes of him.'

Meanwhile, Vaughan's fellow loanee Korey Smith views a three-month spell at League One Yeovil as the perfect way to push himself into Chris Hughton's long term Premier League plans. Smith played the final 30 minutes of the Glovers' 1-0 league defeat at MK Dons on Saturday after completing a temporary move to the West Country.

'Coming to Yeovil will help me learn my trade and hopefully one day I'll be back up there,' he said.

'I've had a couple of good seasons at Norwich - with two promotions - and I played a lot of games, but I picked up an injury at the start of last season and now they've brought in a lot of new players and have a new manager. I'm still young and I've got a lot to learn. I think this is a good place to do so.'
