Norwich City's teenager starlet Jacob Murphy is looking forward to a Carrow Road homecoming in Friday night's Premier League development test against Manchester City's Under-21s (7pm).

Murphy was part of Neil Adams' squad who won the FA Youth Cup last season with some memorable occasions in front of their home fans during the later rounds against Nottingham Forest and Chelsea's emerging talent. Twin brother Josh has already forced his way into Chris Hughton's senior plans with an eye-catching debut goal in the Capital One Cup win over Watford and a late cameo in the midweek fourth round defeat at Manchester United that provides plenty of inspiration to his peers.

'It's given me and a lot of the players a lot of hope,' said Jacob. 'The manager shows a great interest in youth players and we've got to wait for our time and, when we're ready, we're going to hopefully do something memorable like Josh did (at Watford).

'It's been very good. Going from the U18s to first team was always hard, as there was just the reserve team in the past, but the U21s has really helped. It's always nice to play at Carrow Road. We had a lot of success there last season, with the FA Youth Cup. It just adds to the experience and gets us ready for the first-team games.

'We're going to go into the game full of confidence. We always do. We've got all of our big hitters out so we're just looking forward to taking on Manchester City.'

Norwich's young talent are set to watched by the club's new development chief Mark Robson for the first time. Robson is poised to be in the stands after his recent appointment with the Canaries going into their latest test against the Blues on the back of four wins and four defeats so far this season as they target a top-half finish. Murphy knows how important it is to stay in the top half under the new format which sees the league split into two for the 2014/15 campaign.

'We've been playing some really good football, producing wins, but sometimes it hasn't been good enough and we've been getting those losses so it's been a bit of a mixed bag really,' said Jacob. 'The ambition is to get into in the top half of the table, so seventh for us at the moment is okay.

'We want to push as high as we can but, as the season pans out, we need to make sure we stay in the top half and get as close to first place as we can.'

Murphy has played at development level with the likes of first team captain Sebastien Bassong this season as he strives to try and make the transition into Hughton's senior plans.

'The wide player also scored in an impressive development win at Tottenham against a Spurs side that featured German international Lewis Holtby.

'Playing against him was a very good experience,' Murphy told the Premier League's official site. 'We learnt little things playing against him and it all just adds to the experience of getting ready for the first team. We train with Bassong and the first team quite regularly and it builds the experience so, when we're ready for that leap in to the first team, we know what it is all about.'

• Tickets for this evening's game are priced £3 per person. Only the Jarrold Stand will be open and tickets can be purchased in advance from the usual outlets and the Carrow Road ticket office prior to kick-off.
