Norwich City goalkeeper Declan Rudd has been named in England's Under-21s squad for next month's UEFA European Championship in Israel.

Stuart Pearce unveiled his 23-man squad for their European Championship campaign which opens against Italy in Tel Aviv on June 5.

Rudd has made 14 appearances for Preston after joining the League One side on loan in January.

The 22-year-old has made it clear that he needs to be playing regular first team football at this stage of his career.

'I obviously want to play football. No one in football wants to sit and watch every Saturday. Everyone wants to play,' he said. 'If the opportunity was there (to stay at Preston) I would seriously think about it.

'Preston is a great club and they're going places under the new management.

'It's a massive club to play for and, with a fan base like this, it's brilliant to play in front of that every week.'

Rudd's Norwich City team mate Ryan Bennett - who featured twice for the England Under-21's during their European Championship qualifying campaign - has not been called up to the squad for this summer's tournament.
