Chris Hughton praised Norwich City's character after surviving a Stoke onslaught to secure a second Premier League win of the season at Carrow Road on Saturday.

Bradley Johnson glanced home Robert Snodgrass' free kick in the closing stages of the opening period, but Hughton's men were tested to the limit after the break with Michael Turner and Javier Garrido both forced off through injury.

'It was a very hard-fought encounter, but I don't think you expect anything less,' said Hughton. 'Stoke do what they do very well and what they have added is more quality in doing it. You look at their bench and the players they can bring on, it really has changed the status of their club. Particularly for us having to change two defensive players as well in that second half I am really delighted with that win.

'I must admit I have just come out of the changing room and I am not too sure what the boys have done. I know they are not serious ones, but enough for them not to finish the game. We will assess them tomorrow and take it from there.'

Potters' boss Tony Pulis was unhappy at the events leading up to Norwich's winner, when Snodgrass went down following a challenge from Andy Wilkinson before the Scot picked out Johnson to devastating effect.

'The goal was disappointing. I have just seen it on the television and I have been in to see the referee,' he said. 'I just thought it certainly wasn't a free kick. The disappointing thing is that when the lad falls both Andre (Marriner) and the linesman are so close to it. He has booked Charlie (Adam) in the first half for diving. I have had a look at that and (Javier) Garrido pushed him, so that is a double kick in the teeth when he gets both of those decisions wrong and even worse they score from it.'
