Norwich City midfielder Wes Hoolahan is a fresh injury concern for Birmingham's Championship visit to Carrow Road on Saturday after suffering an ankle knock in the midweek 3-0 win at Brentford.

Hoolahan was substituted late in the second period at Griffin Park and City boss Neil Adams confirmed at Colney on Thursday the Republic of Ireland international is set for a scan to assess the extent of the damage.

'Wes had a little bit of a knock on his ankle, we'll have a look at that, I wouldn't say he's a doubt at the moment – he didn't come off because of his injury, we found out he'd hurt his ankle when he came off so that's a good thing,' said Adams. 'The medical people will do what they need to do, and Wes will be confident that he can make it. Other than that I think everybody came through pretty unscathed so we're really pleased.'

Captain Russell Martin trained with the club's fitness coaches on Thursday after missing out at Brentford with a back complaint.

'Russell seemed better on Wednesday. He's confident he'll be ok for Saturday, but players always are,' said Adams. 'You never get a player that says they've got no chance, but I think that's a good thing. You like that positive attitude, but we'll have to wait and see.'

Jonny Howson and Gary Hooper will make their long-awaited injury comebacks as over-age outfield players in the development league game against Leicester City's Under-21s at Colney on Friday. New signings Ignasi Miquel and Conor McGrandles are also set to feature.

'They (Howson and Hooper) will both play in that and Ignasi Miquel will play too, just to get some minutes under their belts,' said Adams. 'It's important that we certainly monitor the minutes or lack of minutes that anybody has or hasn't played. Of course the Shrewsbury came is coming up and I'll look to bring one or two into that one. It will be great to have Jon and Gary back in competitive action, and obviously Iggy with his first real taste of action in a competitive game for us. Those three will start on Friday.'

Adams also confirmed Jacob Murphy has been the subject of a loan enquiry from League One Preston, while the likes of Plymouth and Coventry City have also expressed an interest in his younger talent, but the City boss made it clear he will not sanction any loan departures until after next week's Capital One Cup trip to Shrewsbury.

'I think Preston have made an enquiry. Plymouth have as well, Orient have, Coventry have. There are loads of managers phoning me and asking the club about these young players,' he said. 'What we have said is we'll leave it until after the Shrewsbury game. Obviously the players have the first choice. If they don't want to go out then we don't force them out. I'm pretty sure there'll be plenty of takers for them but until the Shrewsbury cup-tie there will be no-one going.'
