Key Norwich City midfielder Alex Tettey has signed a new two-year deal keeping him at Carrow Road until 2018.

City took up an option in the Norwegian international's existing deal at the start of the summer and following successful negotiations the combative midfielder is the latest member of Alex Neil's squad to pledge his future to the club.

'I'm really pleased and feel very privileged to be continuing my relationship,' he said. 'Norwich have put trust and faith in me since I've been here, which is really good. It's a massive season for us and hopefully we can go on to do well.

'I'm going to give everything I can to help us get back to the Premier League. It's a huge task but I'm very happy to be part of it. I'm delighted because if I'm here in 2018 it means I will have been here for six years. That would be the same amount of time I spent with my former club in Norway, which is a really big deal for me.

'It's a massive season for us and hopefully we can go on to do well. We have a game on Saturday, but then the proper matches start away to Blackburn a week later. I'm going to give everything I can to help us get back to the Premier League.

'It's a huge task but I'm very happy to be part of it. Knowing you've done it before is very important, and we have players who have experience of the Championship. That will help the team when we face different scenarios and challenges this year.'

Tettey has made 113 appearances for the club, scoring six times and Neil himself has hailed the new deal as a significant piece of business.
