There were a host of Norwich City connections on either side as Rangers beat Hearts 2-1 at Ibrox in the Scottish Premiership on Sunday.

It was Canaries loanee Russell Martin coming out on top, alongside midfielder Graham Dorrans and manager Graeme Murty, over fellow loan exile Steven Naismith and former City striker Kyle Lafferty.

Martin played the full match as the Gers remained second in the table, as did Naismith, with Hearts marooned in sixth place.

Kenny McLean maintained his fine goal-scoring form ahead of joining up with Norwich this summer, scoring from around 35 yards as Aberdeen won 2-0 at Kilmarnock to remain behind Rangers on goal difference.

The 26-year-old Scotland international midfielder now has 10 goals to his name, six of which have come in the last 13 games.

Back down south, Yanic Wildschut came on in the 71st minute and was involved in the lead up to the winning goal as Cardiff beat Nottingham Forest 2-1 at home to remain on course for automatic promotion.

In League One, Carlton Morris and Ben Godfrey played all of a 1-1 home draw with already relegated Bury for Shrewsbury, leaving their automatic promotion hopes hanging by a thread as the play-offs loom.

City keeper Remi Matthews was in top form but couldn't prevent Plymouth losing 2-0 at lowly Northampton, leaving their play-off hopes in the balance.

Over in Holland there was another 90 minutes for Todd Cantwell on Friday as Fortuna Sittard won 1-0 at Utrecht II and will now seal promotion to the top flight with a home win over PSV II on Saturday.

While in Germany on Sunday, Marcel Franke helped Dynamo Dresden earn a vital 1-0 win at Kaiserslautern to ease their Bundesliga II relegation fears.

Back in England, Adam Phillips and Diallang Jaiyesimi were not involved for Cambridge or Grimsby respectively in League Two, with Paul Jones still on the bench and yet to feature at Exeter.

Michee Efete played the final 11 minutes as Torquay's relegation from the National League was confirmed by a 1-1 draw at Hartlepool and Louis Ramsay played all of Woking's 2-1 win at Guiseley which keeps their survival hopes alive. Ebou Adams played 73 minutes of Leyton Orient's 1-0 home win over mid-table rivals Wrexham.
