Ben Marshall is 27 years old, English and coming off the back of a fine spell in the Championship with a side which finished just outside the play-offs – fitting the Norwich City profile to a tee.

The Wolves winger looks likely to become City's next summer signing, but what else do we know about him?

The Manchester-born player was a youth player at Old Trafford, joined Crewe Alexandra in 2003, became a pro in 2009 at Stoke where he failed to crack the first team, loaned out to Northampton, Cheltenham, Carlisle and Sheffield Wednesday.

He joined Leicester in 2012, left for Blackburn a year later and then, in January 2017, moved to Wolves, reunited with ex-Canaries boss Paul Lambert, who said: 'He is a really good footballer and will be a welcome addition. He will know with the results that are happening that he will have to fight to get in the team. I think the fans will love him.'

Marshall started just 17 games for the Premier League newcomers and moved to Millwall on loan for the second half of last season, proving a big hit, with scoring three goals and five assists in 16 appearances. Lions boss Neil Harris wanted him back and was reportedly ready to spend a club record £1.2m: 'He did really well for us on-loan and its a calibre of player we really like, it's just whether we can mix in those markets at the moment.'

That form may cost City a few hundred grand more – Wolves supposedly were happy to take £1m for him.

Marshall stands six foot tall, has good energy, loves a run out wide and has a bit of physicality about him.

An option as a right-winger and perhaps most pertinently at right wing-back, Marshall would become City's third signing of the summer alongside the permanent return of Moritz Leitner and the arrival of Argentine playmaker Emi Buendía.

The exits of Josh Murphy and Marley Watkins have shorn City of a couple of wide men, with another, Yanic Wildschut, likely to go out on loan again.

While Marshall is surplus to requirements at Wolves, consider the money they spent to secure promotion and perhaps he is just a victim of circumstance – he could be a snip.
