Norwich City fans were growing concerned amid the imminent departures of Graham Dorrans and Jonny Howson.

The midfield cupboard was starting to look a little bare at Carrow Road but the arrival of Harrison Reed on a season-long loan from Southampton will go some way to appeasing supporters.

Big changes were promised this summer and that's what fans are getting. It is no secret that Norwich have been looking to reduce their wage bill and the departures of Dorrans and Howson will keep the money men happy.

Reed is of course a cheaper replacement but City might just benefit from a player with a point to prove. After coming through the academy system Reed has found first team opportunities limited at St Mary's. He made just three appearances under Claude Puel last season after making 10 the season before.

New Southampton boss Mauricio Pelligrino has told the player to go out and get some first team football before staking a claim for a starting place on the south coast next season.

It is clear Southampton still see his long-term future at St Mary's after handing the 22-year-old a new four-and-a-half year contract in December last year.

If Reed takes his opportunity at Norwich and helps the club mount a promotion bid then you won't find too many fans complaining even if he is only here for a year...
