League One sides Walsall, Coventry City and Peterborough United will provide opposition for Norwich City in pre-season this summer, which will also include a week-long training camp in Austria.

The Canaries have confirmed their initial pre-season preparations for their Championship season, with three friendlies against 'top European opposition' still to be confirmed.

City begin their friendly matches with a behind-closed-doors match against Walsall at the Football Association's St George's Park base in Burton on July 9.

The Saddlers finished third in League One last season, just a point short of automatic promotion, but were beaten by Barnsley in the play-off semi-finals.

A trip to Lowestoft Town follows three days later, on Tuesday, July 12, when a host of former Canaries academy players will play against their old club at Crown Meadow as they prepare to drop back into the Ryman League Premier Division.

City will then take on another League One side in Peterborough United, in a 120-minute friendly at London Road, matching the same type of match played at Cambridge United last season.

Posh finished 13th in the third tier after a mixed season and are beginning life under former Scunthorpe United and Northern Ireland midfielder Grant McCann, who has taken over as manager.

The Canaries then fly out to the Burgenland region of Austria, to the east of the country, near the borders of Slovakia and Hungary.

This also mirrors last season, when City based themselves in the Grassau region of southern Germany, near the Austrian border, and played matches against Israeli side Maccabi Haifa and German top-flight club FC Augsburg.

Provisional dates for matches have been scheduled for July 20 and July 23, while City are in Austria.

The first Carrow Road friendly comes against Coventry City on Tuesday, July 26, providing a reunion with the Sky Blues for youngsters James Maddison and Jacob Murphy.

The duo helped Coventry to finish eight in League One last season, with winger Murphy scoring 10 goals in a season-long loan and midfielder Maddison returning to his boyhood club on loan in January, after being signed by City in a deal worth around £2.5million.

Another Carrow Road date is scheduled for Saturday, July 30, with the opponents yet to be confirmed.

Three matches involving selected Norwich City XIs – against non-league sides Dulwich Hamlet, Dereham Town and Dartford – have also been announced.

Dereham earned their pre-season clash by beating Norwich United in the Norfolk Senior Cup final and City did transfer business with both Dulwich and Dartford in January, to sign youngsters Diallang Jaiyesimi and Ebou Adams respectively.
