Norwich City tonight completed the signing of Spanish defender Javier Garrido.

The 27-year-old has agreed a season-long loan move from Serie A giants Lazio, with the Canaries having an option to extend the deal beyond the current campaign. Norwich boss Chris Hughton confirmed earlier in the day City had been in advanced talks with the Italians to try and make the former Manchester City left-back his fifth summer addition. Garrido underwent a medical today and will be available for the club's Premier League campaign once Norwich receive international clearance.

'I'm absolutely delighted to bring in someone of Javier's quality,' Hughton told the club's official site. 'It gives us real competition in the squad, and for me an important factor was the fact that he had played in the Premier League before. He has played in La Liga, Serie A and the Premier League, so he is a player of real experience.

'We will endeavour to strengthen the squad where we can and if we find individuals who are right for this football club.'

The former Real Sociedad defender made 49 appearances for Manchester City during a three-year spell in the north-west before moving to Rome for 2.5m in July 2010.
