Norwich City captain Russell Martin wants to see his team mates in Euro 2016 finals

Russell Martin will have a summer away from football next year – but hopes it will be a different story for his Norwich City team-mates.

The Canaries skipper had to endure a painful international break as Scotland narrowly missed out on making the Euro 2016 finals.

Now it's the turn his club-mates to see their fate decided, over this international break's two-legged qualification play-offs.

Wes Hoolahan and Robbie Brady are set for Republic of Ireland duty against Bosnia Herzegovina, Martin Olsson's hopes with Sweden rest on victory over Denmark and for Alex Tettey, it's all about Norway overcoming Hungary.

In fact, it was the Irish who pipped Scotland to Group D's play-off spot but at Colney there have been no recriminations – jovial or otherwise.

'We had a little chat about it when I came back,' said Martin.

'I hope they go and qualify now, because I want to see my team-mates there in France. It's the same with Alex and Ols. They've got quite good draws in the play-offs so hopefully they all qualify, because it'll be good for them and good for us as a club.'

Despite a difficult few weeks, Scotland's future looks bright given the confirmation Gordon Strachan is staying on as manager for another two years.

'It's good news for us as a team and as players,' said the City centre-back. 'I've really enjoyed working under him. I think he's a top, top manager and hopefully it'll be a successful next campaign.'

Martin added: 'We're all wounded at the moment, probably because of the expectation and how well we started the campaign. I really enjoy it with Scotland and hopefully the next campaign we'll have a right go again. I think that's why everyone was so disappointed. Before the Georgia game we had a right chance, and that defeat cost us.'
