Paul Lambert felt he witnessed an extra-special Norwich display in today's 2-0 Premier League win over Bolton at Carrow Road.

The Canaries had to overcome the first half injury loss of both Zak Whitbread and Dani Ayala to hit back with late goals from Andrew Surman and Anthony Pilkington. Russell Martin was thrust into the fray for his 100th appearance in an untried centre back pairing alongside Kyle Naughton with another early substitute, Elliott Bennett, deployed in an unfamiliar right-back role.

'That is as good as I have seen in my three years here because of the circumstances,' said Lambert. 'The desire they showed I thought they were absolutely brilliant. They were fantastic. I can't remember two defenders going down like that. It is a blow losing two of your big defenders because they are so good in the air. To have Russell (Martin) and Kyle (Naughton) in there with Elliott (Bennett) playing right-back was colossal. I thought we deserved to win the game. We were dominate from the off and good have had a couple more goals. Kevin Davies is always going to be a handful but I thought Russell and Kyle were excellent.'

Lambert revealed the early injury diagnosis is more concerning for Ayala, with both appearing to suffer hamstring problems.

'Dani has done a hamstring and Zak felt a bit of tightness,' he said. 'We don't know at this stage but Daniel's looks worse than Zak. Hopefully Zak will be okay.'
