Alex Neil is pledging to do it his way in Norwich City's Premier League survival battle.

The City chief insists he will stand or fall by his own decisions in a bid to guide the Canaries to safety after slipping into the bottom three at the weekend.

Neil spoke to the legendary Sir Alex Ferguson ahead of Norwich's top flight return last summer, but the Scot is not poised to seek advice from others to find the winning formula.

'I think everybody knows what the problems are. Tighten up your defence, keep an attacking threat but without shipping as many goals as you are conceding. It is not as if I am not aware of the problem,' he said. 'The difficulty is trying to maintain that attacking threat and the back door shut. The difficulty, we understand, now it is about trying to fix that. Before we played Tottenham we worked all week on the back four and within a minute-and-a-half we concede a goal.'

City look to end a run of five consecutive Premier League defeats when they host West Ham at Carrow Road this weekend.

The Canaries were guilty of more self-inflicted blows in a 2-0 defeat at relegation rivals Aston Villa.

'We are making basic errors,' said Neil. 'You don't need a mastermind coach or tactician to say head the ball and don't run out of your goal. It needs to come from the players. You watch Manchester City and do you think (Manuel) Pellegrini tells them where to play? Of course he doesn't. Sergio Aguero gets the ball and skips past three players and puts the ball in the top corner and he just sits and claps his hands.

'What I have to do is get my players organised, get them drilled and make sure they know what the task is, with and without the ball, and hope they have the skills and quality to go and make the difference in the game.'
