Speculation surrounding the future of Wes Hoolahan grew again on Tuesday night – but it is understood the Canaries have not received a transfer request from the Irishman.
National reports last week suggested Aston Villa had tabled a bid – ranging from £750,000 to £1.5m – for the 31-year-old. And those reports escalated on Tuesday as some claimed Hoolahan had handed Norwich City a transfer request earlier this week.
Villa manager and former City boss Paul Lambert made little effort to veil his search for a new 'number 10' following Villa's FA Cup exit to Sheffield United at the weekend earlier the same day, Hoolahan pulled out of City's third round tie with Fulham due to injury.
Hoolahan is contracted to City until the summer of 2015 and it is hard to imagine Lambert's acrimonious departure from Carrow Road in June 2012 will see the Canaries board willing to sell one of its most popular playing assets to Villa.
The two clubs are still awaiting a tribunal, due next week, to resolve the summer switch of young City keeper Jed Steer to Villa Park.
